Som regel ønskes kastration af hanhunde for at forhindre parring med en hjemmeboende tæve eller af adfærdsmæssige årsager.

Af medicinske årsager kan nævnes testikelkræft og prostatakræft. Sterilisation af tæver ønskes ofte af ejer for at undgå løbetider, isolation fra hanhunde og risiko for uønsket drægtighed.

Der er en del medicinske fordele ved neutralisation af tæver, blandt andet ingen eller væsentlig mindre risiko for livmoderinfektion, cyster i æggestokkene, tumorer i skeden, tumorer i brystkirtlerne og pseudodrægtighed.

Laserterapi, eller “photobiomodulation”, er brugen af bestemte bølgelængder af lys (rød og nær-infrarødt) til at skabe en terapeutisk virkning. Effekten af laserterapi omfatter hurtigere heling, smertelindring, øget blodcirkulation og reduceret hævelse. Alle dyr kan få laserbehandling. Laserbehandling er fuldstændig smertefri, så det er ikke nødvendigt at bedøve dyret. Laseren er et genialt redskab i behandlingen af flere typer patienter, hvad enten det er akut opståede eller kroniske skader.

Her på Grundtvigs Dyreklinik har vi altid fokus på sygdomme i tænder og mundhule, da det er en meget hyppig men desværre overset sygdom hos hund og kat. 85 % af alle hunde og mellem 50-70 % af alle katte over 3 år rammes af tandsygdomme. Alle dyr har brug tandpleje i form af tandrensninger samt behandling af de sygdomme der kan opstå såsom tandsten, paradentose, resorptioner eller knækkede tænder.
